ABOUT
JCAN is the Japanese Culinary Arts Network. The group was formed in 2012 to benefit everyone interested in Japanese Culinary Technique, Cuisine and cooking tools. Our mission is to expand the knowledge and availability of Japanese culinary products and information throughout the United States.
With a network of retailers who are committed to selling the highest quality products, as well as educating their customers about the rich culinary traditions of the Japanese people, we are in a unique position to promote the fine traditions of Japanese cuisine.
JCAN also serves as a source of information for Japanese manufacturers and distributors to reach out and conduct market research as well as hosting events in the emerging US specialty food market.
After visiting Japan on numerous trips Harry Rosenblum (founder of The Brooklyn Kitchen) was speaking with Ikuyo Yanagisawa (owner of Kikuichi Cutlery) about the relative lack of information about traditional Japanese cuisine and technique in the US as well as the limited availability of traditional and modern ingredients and housewares. As Ikuyo was already in the importing business the discussion quickly moved to how we might work together to bring more products to the growing gourmet and specialty markets in the US. What we developed is JCAN. A networking group of dedicated Manufacturers, Distributors, Retailers and Culinary professionals working together to promote and expand knowledge about the incredible products and technique from Japan.
